Finished Result:

Welcome students! Today we will be learning about how to design an animated .gif using GIMP. This is a fairly easy thing to do, but can be helpful in all fields of GIMP'ing.

Firstly, open up your GIMP program. When you've done that, open a new blank page or canvas by going to file>new or you could simply just press ctrl+N. Sizes don't matter. For the sake of the tutorial we will be making a new image, so, you can simply just draw lines all over the canvas like so, or you can do whatever you want.

Example:

After you have made your first image, go to layer>new layer and click okay. This will make a new layer to your current image. Now, on the new layer design a new pattern or, whatever you want. This is what I got,

Example:

Now that you have atleast 2 layers, you are going to go to filter>animation>optimize for gif click on optimize for gif. This will make your image compatible for a gif file. This may make a totally new image, but that's okay save that image by going to file>save as and click Save As. When you've done that, save the image as a .gif by putting in the file name field the name of your document then putting .gif at the end.

Example:

For your image to actually animate, you will want to save it as an animation and leave the rest default. This is the final step, upload your image and see it animate or you can open up the image again go to filter>animation>playback.

Thank you for tuning in! Come back next time!

**PICTURES WILL BE ADDED SOON**

and sorry for the loss of detail Wink.

Extra notes:
You can also optimize the speed between frames by going to the optimized version of your gif and double clicking on the layer you want to optimize the speed and change the number (example: 100Ms) to whatever speed you want. MS stands for milisecond.

It can also apply to photoshop. GIMP was kind of based of Photoshop in a way.
